Germination and storage protein mobilisation of Trifolium subterraneum Var 45C seeds under hypoxic treatment
2007
International audience; The rate, speed and latency period of germination were defined for seeds of Trifolium subterraneum variety 45 C. The latency period was 12 hours on distilled water. The hypoxic stress was applied at the beginning (T12) and the end of latency period (T24). It consists on the addition of nitrogen (N2) under 1 bar pressure in hermetically closed boxes during 2 hours. The germination of treated seeds was then assessed on distilled water. The germination test during hypoxic treatment showed that the hypoxic stress delayed germination, slowing down its speed and decreasing the final percentage of germinated seeds. In order to better understand this depressive effect observ…
Soil erosion assessment on tillage and alternative soil managements in a Sicilian vineyard
2011
Mediterranean crops favour high erosion rates. Vineyards use to reach the highest soil and water losses due to the lack of vegetation cover. A topographical approach by means of the use of vineyards poles as fixed reference point as erosion markers allowed to quantify high and non-sustainable soil erosion rates on the Sicilian vineyards during 9 years. In order to develop strategies to control the soil losses, seven land management were selected and applied in a typical blanc wine grape vineyard located in southwestern Sicily. Comparable plots were managed traditionally using conventional tillage and alternatively using various cover crops: 1) Vicia faba; 2) Vicia faba and Vicia sativa; 3) …
Chemical and acidic composition of Longissimus dorsi muscle of Comisana lambs fed with Trifolium subterraneum and Lolium multiflorum
2010
Aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of grazing on Trifolium subterraneum and Lolium multiflorum, as pure or associated crops, on the chemical composition and on the fatty acid profile of the intramuscular lipids of the meat of lambs. Forty Comisana male lambs, on average weighing 13.75±1.90 kg, were divided into four homogenous groups of ten and called, in relation to the diet: group T those grazing on T. subterraneum; Group L on L. multiflorum; Group TL on adjacent monocultures of T. subterraneum and L. multiflorum (66.6 and 33.3% of surface, respectively); Group LT on adjacent monocultures of T. subterraneum and L. multiflorum (33.3 and 66.6% of surface, respectively). Every 10 …
